Wicker Park is the vanguard of music, nightlife, and fashion in Chicago. It is closely neighbored by sly, enjoyable Ukrainian Village, immediately south, and pieces of the greater West Town area to the West. Wicker Park is bordered. The borders are Kinzie on the South, Bloomingdale on the North, and from the Chicago River on the East to Rockwell (2600 W.) on the West.
Wicker Park was founded by the Wicker brothers in the 1870s, and it became part of the row of prosperous immigrant neighborhoods on the West Side of Chicago ? the German and Polish beer barons of Wicker Park were neighbored by the farmers of Bucktown, the Ukrainians in their titular Village, the Greeks and Italians of the Near West Side, and the Czechs of Pilsen.
Some of the most magnificent restorations in all of Chicago lie in Wicker Park. The Beer Barons built huge mansions that have been recently renovated. There are also numerous stately Greystones and loft buildings full of condos. Apartment living is especially huge in Wicker Park, since the Blue Line station at the heart of the area whisks you downtown in a heartbeat.
The variety of upscale restaurants mixed with the remnants of the old ?starving artist? days make a sweet juxtaposition along Milwaukee Avenue. Used record shops and clothing resale shops sharing streetscape with fine Italian places like Tocco.
For the more modern real estate shopper who loves a lively, hip neighborhood, Wicker Park cannot be beat!
