The Near North Side is bound by the Chicago River to the South and the West, Lake Michgan to the East, where there is some overlap with Streeterville, and up to North Avenue on the North.
This area is home to some beautiful high rises on the southern end while the northern half includes the beautiful single family homes of Astor Street to the East and the shops and restaurants of Old Town to the West.
Some of the grand Hotel/Condo developments of the City are on the Near North Side. This includes the Elysian, recently purchased by the Waldorf Astoria group, Trump Tower, and the Park Hyatt. The area also boasts a large number of upscale restaurants, such as Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Lawry's, and Gibson's.
The Near North Side is Chicago's most active entertainment area. The southern end has rows of clubs and dance bars along Hubbard Street and Illinois Street, while to the North you have the traditional taverns of the Rush Street area, such as The Tavern on Rush and Butch McGuire's.
